Emperor Kaika's Mausoleum
This mausoleum is the ancient tomb of Emperor Kaika, the ninth Emperor of Japan. The tomb is 100 meters long, six to eight meters high - what is known as a keyhole-shaped burial mound. Though the first nine emperors are said to be fictitious characters, Emperor Kaika's imperial mausoleum is considered the oldest keyhole-shaped tomb.

Shinyakushiji Temple
Repairs on the temple were completed in 1998. Formerly an annex of Todaiji Temple, some say that Yakushiji was originally constructed by Empress Komyo for Emperor Shomu, who suffered from a chronic eye complaint. The temple was built with lumber left from the construction of Todaiji. The main building houses a unique, round-shaped altar on which several significant national treasures repose. The temple captures the aura of the ancient capital of Nara.
